Have you ever seen a real life cornucopia?
If you had a cornucopia, how would you carry it? Like an armful of firewood, like a torch, or would you cradle it like a baby?

For those of you who have iPods or other mp3 players larger than 8/16 gigs: have you (or do you) listen to all of the music on your iPod/mp3 players? How often do you add/change/delete your music?

Don't know or care, isn't it amazing how time flies?

Watching Boondock Saints II last night, I learned a new term for little kids:

Snotgobblers.

Some of y'all may have already been using this one, but last night was the first time I'd heard it, and I thought it was hilarious. Of course, I'd been hitting the Baileys since about 4 pm yesterday, so my opinion may have been a little... skewed.

I seem to remember girls at school taking paracetamol when they felt sick but that may have been a cover up....

Childfree Related Short Story Brainstorming [Mar. 18th, 2010|12:32 pm]

cf_hardcore

[bart_calendar]
I have an idea for a short story rambling around my head. The problem is I know what I want the setting to be, I just can't figure out who I want the main character to be. So, I'm just banging the idea out here to see if it helps me or any of you peeps have any brilliant ideas.

The idea is that it's set slightly in the future and the government is trying gradually "enslave" women through their reproduction. First, abortion is outlawed. Then, they stage a fake health scare about the pill (a phony new discovery that hormonal birth control leads to some super scary disease that first makes women terrified to use it and then later justifies them taking it off the market.) Then, secretly taking control of the condom manufacturers and sabotaging just enough condoms so that people stop trusting them and that the rate of condom failure soars. Then, giving out inaccurate birth control information to teens to encourage behavior that would likely lead to many and eventually most women becoming pregnant in their teens. Finally, employing methods of peer pressure on young girls to be both sexually active and to get pregnant (for example secretly paying some teen girls or women to "talk" their friends into having unprotected sex with their boyfriends.) Television reality shows about how wonderful it is to be pregnant at 14 or 15, etc...

The end game for the government: To keep women out of the workplace, so that there are more jobs for men and the unemployment rate seems very low. To enslave women to a state of constant pregnancy so they don't have the free time or energy to see what's happening in society. To enslave men to their jobs because they have to support the children. All in all to use reproduction to control the population.

But, what point of view should the story be told from? A girl who is trying to resist the peer pressure to get pregnant at 14 or 15? I worry that could become too much The Handmaid's Tale. The point of view of one of the girls who is paid to try to convince other girls to have babies? I worry that character would be Patrick Batemen level unlikeable? A government agent who is working with the program to make it work? Who perhaps gets sexual satisfaction over the biological enslavement of women? I think that could be fun, but end up turning the story into porn.

Any ideas?

How do you feel about a 19 year old guy who has never been kissed?

Edited for backstory: I have a friend whos a complete geek, not attractive but not unattractive and not much body-wise (overactive thyroid, tyvm). A bit of a recluse and doesn't go out much. Funny, brilliant personality + very sweet; he's just getting very worried and nervous about his inexperience.

Name that movie [Mar. 18th, 2010|03:49 am]

I have a scene from a movie in my head, and I can't for the life of me remember what movie it was from.

A woman is in the kitchen making a meal for her husband. He's being a total asshole, yelling about everything. The whole time she has the same eerie calm look on her face, her expression never changing. She's frying something in a pan on the stove, and she picks it up to bring the food over to her husband at the table. He yells at her for burning the food, and she, still very calm and expressionless, lifts the pan up and dumps the searing hot oil on his head.

I know I've watched this movie recently, but I have no idea when it originally came out. Help?

Edit: Found! It was The Grudge 2.

The Anger - It Burns [Mar. 18th, 2010|11:14 am]

cf_hardcore

Usually I try to make my posts here snarky and funny, but this article just pisses me off too much to joke about.

Deal is, dude writes into The Guardian's advice columnist. His basic deal is that he's 42 and likes fucking but has yet to feel the urge to procreate and while he'll bang a woman who has kids, he wouldn't marry her, because he just doesn't want kids. He wants to know if he's a weirdo.

To which he gets told he's an immature child. Here is some of the text:

Your repulsion at the thought of parenthood and all that goes with it may help you to remain as an overgrown adolescent. Without the pressures of responsibility you have not had demands put upon you that would have activated certain behavioural strategies. Thus, you have not adapted and cognitively matured in accordance with the demands of responsible breeding.

Narcissism in males can accompany an attractive boyishness, which on first impressions can appeal to females. But selfish, egocentric and immature behaviour in males will eventually contribute to the breakdown of a relationship.

and:

A word of warning: you may end up as the oldest swinger in town, which could be a lonely role, and by then your choice of mates will be vastly reduced.

Or a TV show, not sure which. The only thing I can remember is a boy, maybe 8-10 years old, hiding in a treehouse (possibly after his parents have a fight?) One of the parents, I'm thinking the dad, or another male character, climbs the ladder to the treehouse to coax the kid back inside. I think there may have been some Narm-y hugging involved.

It was live-action and not animated, I'm pretty sure of that.

EDIT: After thinking about it for a while, I'm almost positive that this one was Bye Bye Love, although I could still be wrong as I haven't seen that one in forever and a day.

Oh, and while I'm posting, a minor one: which Dinosaur Comics was it that had the quote, a few lines in each panel, that ended "their world was black and white and [something] and gone"?

EDIT: Found, thanks [info]qwantz!

Paper or book scents? [Mar. 18th, 2010|02:23 am]

I am trying to squeeze one final BPAL order before the price hike and wanted to know what scent is in the current catalog that smells most like a library, a bookstore or a basic paper scent?

I've tried Miskatonic U. but it wasn't for me.

Any other options? I'd rather have it more of a paper or book note than incense or leather and I would like it to have a strong throw and lasting time, if possible.

Imagine you're annoyed with something your SO does without realising it, and you don't say anything, because you feel like maybe you're just being harsh/particular/neurotic.

Then, your mom/dad/best friend/priest hangs out with you and your SO, and complains about it as soon as your SO leaves to go to the restroom.

What is the habit? Do you feel justified getting so bothered now that you know you're not the only one?

Eating with their mouth open. TOTALLY justified
